Potomac 5/20/12

Launched on the VA side at Leesylvania State Park with David and Justin in David's 17' Tracker. We fished a few creeks near there and had a great day with over 20 nice bass, most 12-15", with the big fish being right at 3lb which David caught on a senco.  The am high tide was at 7:30, and the water was VERY high, and we started the day catching only a few fish on Chatterbaits, and shallow diving crankbaits up against the banks close to to the launch ramp.

May 5th Local Lake Audubon VA Report

Chris and Tibor hit the lake 5/5/12.  Lots of fish on beds.  Tibor landed a 5.5lb female (spawned out) and Chris ended up with over 20 smaller males from his Kayak.  Sencos and Spinerbaits were the ticket from what I heard.  Light Line and water temps in mid 60's.  See pic #49 in VA Waters.

4/29/12 Lower Potomac River VA/Burke Lake VA/Lake Audubon VA

A few members of the Baybass crew attacked some local waters last weekend.  My fishing partner Justin started out on the Lower Potomac out of Occoquan Regional Park in his kayak, and worked his way up river towards the walk bridge and "Occoquan Falls" area where several boats were already fishing.  Justin managed 1 bass up there, and then headed down river, fishing bridge pilings and shallow pad areas off of the main river.  His kayak allowed him to venture into some really shallow areas with wood cover, and lily pads.

The ordering and design of a true "CUSTOM ROD"......

I've purchased several "custom rods" prior, from a few different rod makers, but just a few days ago I finished up the design and consultation regarding a 7'0" Custom Rattletrap and Jerkbait rod meant for long distance launching of 3/4oz Rattletraps and larger suspending Jerkbaits.

Weather Problems in April

The bass have pulled out of the shallows, especially the large females that were up cruising banks looking for spawning territory and beds, especially the bass on the VA waters.  The bass have abandoned the beds in the VA ponds and lakes and the Upper Bay has cooler water temps now than it did in the last week of March 2012, so the fishing has been off, unless you revert back to your winter holding patterns.  With night time lows in the mid to high 30's, the bedding crappie that were mid-spawn and bass beginning to bed have all pulled off, except for a few really determined fish.

Potomac River, Upper Bay, and VA Lakes Report

Potomac River-  Some fish are in spawn mode, on beds in the back of creeks, and marina sea walls in numerous rivers.  Others are still holding deep, especially those further north.  Mallows Bay has been hot, as well as the southern creeks such as Potomac Creek and Aquia.  Also, particular creeks, bays and docks/Marinas near the Leesylvania state park area on the Virginia side of the river have been on fire as well.  Many pre-spawn fish are still holding along docks and bridges and water temps are 55 to 61 almost everywhere.

UPPER CHESAPEAKE BAY REPORT April 7th

Fished the Mariner Point Bassmasters Open Cabin Fever Tournament out of Mariner Point Park on the Gunpowder River in MD April 7th.  During our Pre-Fishing practice day a week prior my partner and I had 4 fish (Largemouth) for 19lbs in and around the Gunpowder River area.  One of these was a 6lb+ a 5.5lb+ and two others 4+.....we left without the 5th fish...these fish were staging in an area near (within 0.5 mile of a protected spawning cove).
